Cadet Selection Championships

Well done to Lucy who took part in the British Taekwondo Cadet selection Championships on 9th July 2017. This competition in the Doncaster Dome was only open to Cadets (age 10-14) from the UK. The winner of each Category would get a fully paid place to the European Cadet Championships later this year.

Lucy from DTA had trained hard in the run up to this competition. To top up her regular 3 x a week sports classes, she also went training on the beach with Master Tata and TJ (running up hills etc..) at 6.30am four or 5 times a week.

unfortunately Master Tata was away that weekend at a Wedding and with Master Naraine Head of the Referee team Master Dave Desforges from South Hams agreed to coach Lucy.

Lucy had a great match. She went ahead early in the match with a headshot; she 2 headshots removed for grabbing and kicking. With less then 5 seconds left and the scores tied 11-11 Lucy fell and received a 1 point penalty. She lost 12-11. The girl that beat her went on to win the final securing her place at the Europeans. Well done Lucy, great experience and lots of lessons learned. Areas for improvement identified; onwards and upwards to this years nationals.

Dad Geoff said “Very good experience for Lucy, so proud of her especially her attitude through out the weekend! Dave did a brilliant job with Lucy before and after her match! Having TJ there supporting was so helpful took a lot off pressure of me, made the journey home easer! And she’s so pleased she gave it a go!¬†Thanks for letting Lucy enter the competition, I think she’s come out of this more determined then ever before!”
