Last weekend (12th & 13th September) a team from Dorset Taekwondo made up of Lucy Laurence, Grzesiek Ch, Laila Arbane and me, along with coaches Steve Winnington and Marcin Tata, went up to Manchester to take part in the British Taekwondo National Championships. This was the biggest National Championships ever with 662 players.
On the Saturday we weighed in and everyone successfully made their weight category, before enjoying ourselves in the evening by going out for a well earned meal!
Sunday was the competition day. Lucy and Grzesiek did extremely well, considering it was their first competition and they didn’t have much fighting experience so they learnt a lot and everyone was really proud. Laila received a bronze medal, and I received a silver medal, so we were very pleased that our hard work and training had paid off. After the medalling ceremony, we managed to get a team photo with olympic gold medalist, Jade Jones!
Over the weekend we had the chance to meet many of the other GB academy members which was amazing and i met Lutalo Muhammad, Rachelle Booth and Levi Goodridge.
I’d like to thank everyone who supported us from Dorset taekwondo, who made it possible for us to take part in the competition; it was an amazing opportunity and everyone learnt a lot from the experience!

The next competition is on 29th November in Nottingham. We will need to submit entries in the next couple of weeks if you want to take part as competitions are often oversubscribed – Speak to Master Naraine, Master Tata or your club instructor if you are interested in trying a competition.
Following on last year success at the British National Championships in Manchester with two junior, Abi and Laila, who both received a silver medals, we will be returning along with two new players – Lucy and Grzesiek.
Lucy is 12 years old and she will be competing under 41kg cadets.
Two juniors, Abi and Laila, both 16, will compete under 59kg and under 63kg
and Grzesiek,27, will be fighting under 68kg seniors.
We have been putting a lot of effort into our training in the lead up to this big event (nearly 600 competitors) which will be once again held in Manchester on the 13th September. Coach Marcin Tata, who is experienced sport taekwondo player, encourages athletes to train at least three times a week with enough time to recover after hard session.
Definitely their focus and commitment will pay off!
As in previous year the club are paying their entry fee. Also, this year, we have given players and coaches matching embroided club t-shirts (shown in photos).
