*** Phased restart of LITTLEDOWN Classes***

After 2 months of covid secure classes I am pleased to announce that we are restarting a class at the Littledown Centre on Saturdays at midday from 7th November.

Most of our classes are busy so we are delighted to announce that we will be adding an additional class to our Taekwondo schedule on Saturdays from Midday to 12.55pm in the Main Hall court 5. This will be a general class for all ages (8+) and abilities, suitable both for existing members and new beginners.  We might consider an additional hour for higher grades depending upon demand.

2 meter social distancing rules will apply before, during, and after the class. Please familiarise yourself with the information on this page.

Places are limited to control social distancing. You must book in for test and trace. Please pay by bank transfer at time of booking.

FAQs – Restarting Classes April 2021

Last update (02/04/2021) and look for the answer to your questions below.

Full details on relaxation of restrictions can be found on the British Taekwondo Website – Click Here.

Safety is a Priority – and Dorset Taekwondo will set the example and follow the rules / guidance. (not bend the rules!)

If you have any questions that are not answered below please email them to Master Naraine – who will reply, and post them here:-

Q – What activities can we do / not do in class?

Under 18s can train as normal – kick target work and sparring is permitted (with some sensible precautions). Precautions include cleaning equipment between uses, adults to wear gloves, alcohol gel / handwashing, managing and controlling close contact.

Q – What is a phased restart? When will the other venues open?

Other venues will reopen when there is sufficient demand (to pay for the hall hire); when they are available (some are still closed); and when coaches are available (some coaches have different work and family commitments to pre-lockdown). Some classes might not start again until September (depending upon restrictions).

Q – How much will classes cost?

Classes will be £5 on a pay-as-you-go basis. Classes must be paid for at time of booking by bank transfer to secure your place.

Q – Is there discounts for families and students and those on low income etc.. (as you had previously in your monthly payment plans)

With reduced class sizes (max 15) it is difficult to cover the costs of the hall hires. The class prices vary to meet the costs of the hall hires given the maximum numbers permitted. Coaches are volunteers and no one is paid. The club operates on a not-for-profit-basis.
That said we don’t want you not to train due to financial pressures. Please contact Master Naraine and we can discuss in confidence if you have any issues.

Q – Can we pay by monthly standing order again?

Standing order is cheaper for you, and easier for the club to manage. However monthly payment in advance will be difficult to administrate as some classes might be full before you manage to book in. There is also the possibility that we might have a local lockdown, classes suspended at short notice, sick coaches or members. Refunds are complex. There is just too many unknowns at the moment and therefore we need to see how things go for a few months before restarting the monthly payment plans.

Q – When will the kickstars classes restart for ages 5-7 ?

We are planning on restart classes for 5-7 year olds straight away (April 2021). These are usually term time, and paid for in half term blocks. However, they will be pay-as-you-go until our weekly class schedule settles down.

Q – Will there be a grading to work towards this year (2021)?

Yes – there might be grading for those who trained regularly over zoom during lockdown. We will also do a grading for colour belts and black belts as soon as members are back to regular training and able to properly prepare.

Q – When will sport / sparring classes restart.

As soon as the CORE classes are working well, we will look to restarting the Development Pathway Classes (Sparring / Patterns and Demo) as soon as possible.

Q – Will I need to wear shoes during indoor classes

You can wear running or Taekwondo shoes if prefer as some floors are difficult to clean thoroughly between classes. Where we get the mats out, shoes are not permitted. Please check at each venue if your not sure.

Q – Will I have to wear a Face-mask in classes?

We will follow British Taekwondo guidance regarding the wearing of Face-masks. The current guidance does not make the wearing of facemasks inside, whilst exercising, compulsory. However coaches will wear them when moving around the class. It is not yet known if overs 18s will require them when back inside – it is likely that they will be worn when doing pairs work where you are less then 2 meters from your partner for more than a couple of minutes. Of course you can wear a facemask through the class, or at any point during the class if you prefer. This is a fast changing situation and we will regularly update our risk assessments and keep you informed.

Q – Whats happening at our sister club in Lyme Regis

Master Sharon Ward has risk assessed and reached agreement with her venues. She is restarting classes in April 2021. She has already resarted outside classes. You cannot just turn up. Please contact Sharon if you wish to attend.

Q – Is the Stourfield After School class restarting

Unfortunately the school have contacted us and as a after school activity this class will probably not restart until September 2021. and this will be reviewed in the new year. This is due to the fact that the school do not want mixing of school year group bubbles. Members at this club will be directed to other local classes when we have more information available.

Q- At the Football and Rugby clubs they dont seem to be following the same rules – why does Taekwondo training have to be so strict?

Each sport has specific guidance – we must follow the guidance issued by British Taekwondo as the National Governing Body (NGB) for Taekwondo in the UK. Updates to industry specific guidance takes several weeks after changes to national policy – we need to be patient for the guidance to catch up. We should not compare ourselves to activities that take place in other sports. All sports should be following Sport Englands return to play policies. Several sports are not – but Dorset Taekwondo will follow the guidance, and do our best in controlling the spread of the virus.

Q – Will Zoom, Facebook Live, and Outdoor sessions continue?

The majority of Zoom / Facebook Live and outdoor sessions will stop. Sessions can be organised upon request on an ad-hoc basis. Zoom was challenging for everyone (coaches and members). Hopefully we will not need to go back to it. But we always have it as a fall back if we go back into another lockdown.

Q – Will you do some outdoor sessions for under 18s and Adults?

We could run some outdoor sessions as they are less risk, less restricted, and over 18s can participate. We can do outdoor classes now for groups of up to 30. The downside is that they are weather dependent. Please answer the participation survey and outdoor classes will be organised according to demand.

Training Update. 19th July 2020

Dear all,

Thank you for your continued support during Covid 19 Pandemic. Since closing all the face-to-face training in mid-march we have been busy with online (Zoom) and Facebook Live classes. We have also set up a new Facebook Group (DTA Homelearning) where we post lots of challenges, classes and training tips. This can be found at

With a view to keeping you active, engaged and focused, we took a decision to keep all classes FREE. The club is run on a not for profit basis, unlike others in the UK, coaches are all volunteers who give their time and energy purely for the love of Taekwondo- none of the club coaches is paid. Currently the club has minimal outgoings and is well managed financially which will allow us to continue to operate until such time as training inside resumes.

With leisure centre able to open from 25th July it’s great to hear from so many of you asking when we will get back to classes. It is our intention to get back to inside face-to-face classes as soon as it is safe to do so. Currently we are working towards early / mid September. Most of our venues have been out of contact since lockdown and there is still a lot of details to organise.

This is a fast changing situation and I don’t want to speculate what our new training program will look like.  However, I am prepared to say it will not be the same as before and will definitely be a “new normal”. I anticipate

  • Reduced class sizes to allow for social distancing.
  • Limited exercises – for example contact exercises / sparring are not currently permitted.
  • A requirement to book and pay for our classes online so we can manage numbers and keep an accurate list of attendees.
  • Classes are unlikely to be at the same days, times, and locations as before.
  • Classes will be shorter / targeted / specific to particular grades, and themed. (This is to maximise your learning potential during our limited face-to-face time)

I am sure you will have many questions which I am happy to answer. I have set up a FAQs which can be found here on our website. If you have any unanswered questions please email them to Master Naraine at

Online Classes – Info and T&Cs

To ensure that we can run fun and safe sessions, please keep the following in mind;

  • Please ensure that you have sufficient space, free of obstacles and with enough room to move without physical contact with each other.
  • Please avoid working out on hard or slippery floors.
  • All participants must be members of British Taekwondo. Non-members can take a taster class but if they are continuing they will need to register for British Taekwondo Family and Friends Membership. To do, just send us an email and we will help you register. By joining these sessions you are participating at your own risk.
  • Please do not join the classes if you are ill or injured. Rest! There will be plenty of other opportunities to train and we want you to stay safe and well.

Classes are delivered live on Zoom. Zoom is a free, easy to use video call app available to use on laptops, tablets and smartphones.

During the classes your microphone will be muted to avoid background noise. When you join please ensure that your camera is on as it will allow us to provide feedback, This is also an insurance requirement for us to run these sessions. The sessions are also recorded for insurance purposes which includes a record of your attendance. These recording will be retained for 36 months.

We are using the chat facility on Zoom for questions and the instructor leading each session will allow a couple of minutes at the end of each session to answer these questions.

We also have also have a specific private Facebook group (DTA – Homelearning) for this online training programme which can be found at (this is a private group so you will need to request to join).

We are using this closed Facebook group to provide updates on the classes, details on what we will be focusing on during the coming week’s classes as well as for polling on how we might develop and extend this programme. We will also continue to share key information through club’s normal email lists and Facebook page, but this homelearning group is used for more detailed information and for the instructors to get feedback and poll for opinions from those actively involved with the online classes.

To keep inline with British Taekwondo’s policy on Safeguarding we can only accept memberships in this private group from adults. Therefore if you are a junior who is registered for online classes under your own email address please pass this invitation onto a parent or guardian. We do want to ensure all our members, older and younger, are fully part of our online programme but the security and safety of our juniors must be the key concern.

If you have any other questions please just send us an email.

We look forward to see you online very soon.

Refunds during closure period

Dear Parents, Guardians and Members,

RE: Training fees & Refunds

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. A few people have contact me regarding their monthly training fees, grading tests fees and competition fees.

Dorset Taekwondo is a not-for-profit organisation and all the coaches and committee are volunteers who give their time and energy for free.

Not all of our venues have been in contact regarding refunding where we have paid in advance, and I expect the club will still have some bills to pay. However, please be assured that all monies paid in advance will be refunded to you. Over 90% of the club pay by monthly standing order so this is quite an administrative task.

In order to achieve this as smoothly as possible please can you.

  • Amend your standing order putting it down to £1 by 1st April 2020

Of course you can suspend your standing order – but please let us know if you choose to do this.

By putting it down to £1 it is much easier for the club to manage our accounts, and easier for you to restart once we are up and running again.

Just to be clear all regular payments are paid into the club account by you are Standing Orders, not Direct Debits. Standing orders cannot be stopped, or amended by the club – you have full control, the club has none.

The club does not hold any members bank details. Therefore, if you require a refund, please email Master Naraine at

Please supply the following information

  • account name
  • account number
  • sort code
  • amount of refund required, and a breakdown of what it is for. E.g., £30 competition entry fee.

Any questions please ask.
