Medal Hall at the Chungdokwan National Championships

On Saturday 24th March a combined team featuring players from both New Milton Taekwondo and Dorset Taekwondo took part in the Taekwondo Chungdokwan GB National Championships in Bracknell.

After an early start leaving home at 6.15 the team were weighed in for 8.30am. Then the waiting game with the matches starting around 11am. The novices were on non-electronic scoring, and the advanced on KP&P electronic truck protectors and headguards. The KP&P is a little different to the Daedo which we have in club, and it was good try try it.

Results were mixed with everyone earning medals. Some of teh matches were a little more difficult due to combined categories, but winners and loser both learned lessons and will improve for next time.

Highlights included Ken, in his first big competition, won 2 matches to win Gold. Coach Marcin Swedrzynski commented “Ken was great; he did exactly what he was told, he kept it simple and scored points against some much taller opponents.” Another highlight was Nico who moved up from junior to senior -87kg. Renowned National referee Tom Potts commented afterwards that it was the most entertaining and exciting match of the day finishing 29-28 to Nico. Finally Katie in her first competition kept her nerve and scored several headshots on her way to gold.

Master Naraine (Dorset TKD) and Master Ford (New Milton TKD) were really pleased. Both agree that having the two clubs / teams training together is really benefiting us all.
