SITUATION VACANT- Kyorugi / Sport Development Pathway Coach.

SITUATIONS VACANT- Kyorugi / Sport Development Pathway Coach.

Dorset Taekwondo Association is currently looking to expand our coaching staff. We are currently looking for a coach to assist in our (Competition Sparring) Sport Development Pathway.

Dorset Taekwondo has been running for nearly 30 years. We currently have 11 classes a week across the Bournemouth & Christchurch area. We have approx 180 members between ages of 6 and 60. In order to progress different aspects of Taekwondo we run “Core” classes and “Development Pathways”. More information can be found here.

We currently require a coach to assist and cover on Saturday 11-1pm. The coach will be able to plan and run engaging sessions with the lead coach, and cover in his absence. The club has a kyorugi development plan which is the basis for our club / player development.
Dorset Taekwondo is a not-for-profit organisation. Expenses can be paid, and full training including a level 2 certification & first aid is available for the right candidate.

For an informal discussion please contact Master Naraine on info@dtkd.co.uk

DTA Summer Schedule August 2018

Dorset Taekwondo Association classes do NOT run to a school time schedule. Classes are generally on 48 weeks per year with a short break over Christmas / New Year, and a short break at the end of August.

For August 2018 we are taking a break from Monday 13th August to Saturday 1st September. However, there will be a combined junior and senior class on Thursday 16th August from 7-9pm at Littledown (studio 1).

Patterns / Poomsae session with GB Team Member

On Saturday 21st April Dorset Taekwondo invited Sheena to come and help us with our competition Poomsae training. Sheena is in the GB Poomsae team, and has also competed Internationally in both Patterns and Sparring.

Recently the poomsae class have been working on
– hands and feet finishing at same time
– keeping heel down whilst kicking
– generating power from the waist
– preparation position being big / large volume
– starting each move relaxed and accelerating into the block or strike.

On this occasion Master Naraine asked Sheena to work in tempo / timing.

This is likely to become more important as the scoring for competitive poomsae is set to change with a higher percentage of marks given for ‘presentation’ rather than ‘accuracy’.

The session lasted 3 hours and we covered all poomsae from Taegeuk 4 to Chonkwon. Everyone enjoyed the session and we look forward to welcoming Sheena back again to help us prepare for the Bluewave Poomsae competition on 3rd June.

Thanks again Sheena and good luck at the World Taekwondo Beach Championships in Rhodes next week.

Don’t forget the Poomsae Development Pathway have additional classes in May in preparation for the competition. Further details can be found Here

We also have a Self defence / Hapkido seminar on 12th May (see Facebook Event page for more details)

Black Belt Tests – SMASHING time had by all

25th March 2018 will be firmly in the memory of the Tomkins family. Stephen, Gen and Kit smashed their way to 1st Dan, Connor smashed his way to second Dan.

Other successful candidates included Emily also going for first Dan, Dave for 2nd Dan and Sharon for 5th Dan (Master).

The candidates had to perform 4 pattterns / poomsae, Step sparring, advanced kicking, several round of sparring, and smashing their way through several inches of wood in the power test!

Examiner, Master Naraine said “It is great to see a whole family achieve their Black belts with Dorset Taekwondo. We have had a few parents and children achieve black belts together over the last 30 years, but never a Mum, Dad and three children. They have been training for approximately 5 years, usually 3 classes a week. they were well prepared, and apart from a few nerves I hope they almost enjoyed the test.”

Presentation on “A review of 2017 successes and onward to 2018”

Below is a link to a video of the Presentation given to the parents in December 2017. The presentation details some of the success of our club in 2017, and outlines some of our plans for 2018. If you missed it, or were training at the end of year seminar whist the presentation was given, please take some time to watch it.

The presentation raised several good questions from the audience, particularly with regard to the Pathway classes. Further details of the Development Pathways can be found HERE.

Moving onward to 2018 the club has set out the following objectives:-

  • Increase participation in the Pathways (particularly from Green tag 7th Kup).
  • Steer members to utilise all venues, not just classes based at Littledown.
  • Increase the number of members taking part in competition (Patterns and Sparring).
  • Engage more with parents, as without parent support the children will not be able to succeed.
  • Build a base of volunteers to support events and administrative functions within the club.
  • Plan and implement specific training plans for those wanting to take part in competition.
  • Maintain and Increase membership of DTA  to account for increase costs (Hall hire).

Match Day (21st January 2018)

On Sunday 21st January 2018 at the Grange School we will be running some sparring matches with some local clubs.

As before we will set up a couple of rings. One of the rings will be on electronic scoring (PSS), and the other on non-PSS with judges scoring. On this occasion there will not be a training session before the matches. This is so we can have more matches, and the newly trained judges from the day before can practice.

The number of entries will be limited to 60 to ensure we have sufficient time for matches, this includes the visiting clubs. Everyone will have one match, and where time permits there will also be further optional matches which will be organised on the day. This is a great opportunity to prepare yourself for sparring competition.

Entries will be on a first come first served basis so please get your entries in soon. An application form is below and needs to be returned to your club instructor with payment by 15th January.
